BILL shut down Finmark on 1 April 2026. After that date, customer data is permanently inaccessible — the dashboards, models and forecasts you built are gone unless you exported them in time. This guide covers what happened, what existing customers must do now, and the best Finmark replacements for your stage.
Disclosure: Metapraxis is an independent FP&A consulting firm and the developer of our own EPM platform, Empower — one of the alternatives discussed below. We have no commercial relationship with Finmark or BILL. We consult on Jirav, Abacum, Cube, Datarails and other tools, and we will tell you honestly when one of them is a better fit than Empower. Status and figures are current as of mid-2026 and should be re-confirmed at the time of purchase.
Finmark was a startup-focused financial modelling and runway tool — revenue modelling, expense tracking, scenario comparison, cash-runway calculation and investor reporting, priced for early-stage and small-business finance teams. BILL acquired Finmark on 16 November 2022. After roughly three years of folding the parts it wanted into its own financial-operations platform, BILL made the decision to retire the standalone product.
On 1 April 2026, BILL sunset the original Finmark product. Co-founder Jeremy Neuberger framed the decision plainly: "we've made the decision to sunset the original Finmark product." There is no successor product that automatically inherits your model, and BILL has not published a formal migration path or a recommended replacement vendor.
Critical: after 1 April 2026, customer data in Finmark is permanently inaccessible. Your dashboards, models, forecasts and historical actuals can no longer be retrieved from the application. If you did not export your data before the sunset, it is gone — and your starting point for any replacement is whatever export files you saved.
If you were a Finmark customer, the sunset creates two distinct problems: getting your data out, and rebuilding your planning capability somewhere else. The first has a hard, already-passed deadline; the second is what you do next.
Before the sunset, BILL's guidance let you export your Dashboard, Employees, Expenses, Revenue, Actuals, Reports and Variables in PNG, JPG, PDF, CSV and XLSX formats. The CSV and XLSX files are the ones that matter for rebuilding a model — images and PDFs are reference only. If you have these files, gather them in one place now: your historical actuals and assumptions are the seed for whatever you migrate to.
If you missed the export window: the application and its data are no longer available. Reconstruct what you can from your accounting/ERP system, bank feeds, payroll and prior board decks. A clean rebuild from source data is often more robust than a Finmark export anyway — but it is more work, and it is the reason migration urgency matters.
The real cost of a sunset is not the lost software — it is forecasting blind through a fundraise, a board meeting or a runway crunch because your model is frozen. Prioritise standing up a replacement that covers your essentials: a rolling cash-runway view, a revenue model, headcount/expense planning and a board-ready output. You do not need to rebuild everything at once; rebuild the pieces your next reporting or fundraising cycle depends on first.
There is no single "Finmark replacement" — the right tool depends on your stage and whether you want a like-for-like SMB tool or to step up to a more capable platform with consulting support. Empower is our own platform, listed first in the interest of disclosure; the others are tools we genuinely rate for specific situations.
| Platform | Best fit for ex-Finmark teams | Strengths | Watch-outs | Indicative cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Empower (Metapraxis) | Teams that have outgrown a runway tool and want an operating model, not just software | Practitioner-built driver models, Build-Operate-Transfer delivery, real FP&A consulting depth, fast time-to-value | More than a self-serve SMB tool; strongest paired with Metapraxis consulting | Contact for pricing |
| Jirav | The closest like-for-like for startup/SMB runway and 3-statement modelling | Driver-based modelling, dashboards, accounting integrations, approachable for small teams | Less suited to complex multi-entity consolidation | ~$10k–$40k p.a. |
| Abacum | SaaS and VC-backed finance teams that lived in Finmark's metrics | Fast deployment, SaaS-metric models, modern collaborative interface | Weaker for non-SaaS business models; smaller ecosystem | ~$20k–$60k p.a. |
| Cube | Teams that want to keep planning in Excel/Sheets but add structure | Spreadsheet-native, quick to deploy, low change-management cost | Relies on your spreadsheet discipline; lighter on workflow | ~$15k–$50k p.a. |
| Datarails | Excel-heavy teams that want to consolidate and report without leaving spreadsheets | Excel-native, strong reporting/board packs, broad integrations | Less of a fresh modern UI; can inherit spreadsheet sprawl | ~$30k–$60k p.a. |
⚠️ Cost note: these ranges are indicative and current as of mid-2026. None of these vendors publishes firm list pricing for all tiers, and actuals vary with user count, modules and integrations. Always request a scoped quote. For deeper cost breakdowns see our Jirav, Cube, Datarails and Abacum guides.
A forced migration is also a chance to fix what Finmark could not do. Before you commit to a replacement, work through these:
